Allergen Immunotherapy, or allergy shots, denotes a form of continuing treatment that lowers the symptoms of allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis (allergy ineyes) or stinging insect allergy in many people.

Symptoms of allergy may include:

  • Sneezing
  • Itching of your nose, eyes, or roof of the mouth
  • Runny, stuffy nose
  • Watery, red, or swollen eyes (conjunctivitis)
  • Rashes
  • Hives (a rash with raised red patches)
  • Stomach cramps
  • Vomiting
  • Chronic or Intermittent Cough
  • Wheezing
  • Chest Tightness
  • Dyspnea

Allergen Immunotherapy decreases a person’s sensitivity to allergens, often results in long-term relief from allergy symptoms even after your treatment has been stopped. That is why it can be a beneficial & cost-effective treatment approach for many people.

Who Can Benefit From Allergy Shots?

Allergy shots can be helpful for both children and adults, but children under age five are often not recommended. They may have difficulties in cooperating with Allergen Immunotherapy program. On the other hand, older adults with medical conditions such as cardiac disease should consult their allergist / immunologist first.
